You had me at “hello.”
— Dorothy to Jerry, in the film Jerry McGuire
When I walked into my hotel room in Burlington and saw this view, I fell in love.

The Hilton Hotel on Battery Street runs along the Waterfront on Lake Champlain. I had thought the Lake was one the Five Great Lakes. Silly me. Lake Champlain — or Lake Champagne, as the hotel telephone operator called it — is a long narrow lake separating Vermont from New York State. Look across the Lake and you see the Adirondack Mountains of New York.
Sunsets in Vermont
In the evenings I usually sat with a glass of wine in my hand and Annie on my lap and watched the sun set over the Lake. Sometimes, the sunsets rivaled those in Taos

Fourth of July Celebration in Burlington
Cynthia had reminded me the fireworks were held on July 3 in Burlington, presumably to give the small towns around Burlington less competition on the Fourth. So I was fully prepared with room service, which, unexpectedly, will bring an ice cold martini (in a stemmed glass) to your room!
When the fireworks started, Annie gave a couple of “woofs” at the (muted) noise, then she settled down next to me and watched the light show as if she were enjoying it.

The fireworks were launched from a boat on the Lake directly in front of the hotel, and the lights were so close I could almost reach out and touch them.
Walking in Burlington

Having a fabulous walking trail across the street was one of the perks of the hotel. We encountered lots of lots of dogs, mostly friendly, and bikes, a few rollarbladers, and people of all shapes, sizes and groups. Annie and I walked it daily, sometimes twice a day, during our 10-day stay in Burlington.
Most days we also did the boardwalk at the waterfront, which was just a few yards down the hill from the walking trail.

Walking, eating, driving through the scenic mountains . I love Burlington!
